OLD POLEGATE STATION
NFRC NOMINATION – BEST SINGLE PLY
The original building of Old Polegate Station was previously the town’s only train station before closing in 1984 and being converted to a public house in 2004. The pub was heavily damaged by fire 6 years ago and shortly after suffered further storm damage to the large flat roof (which had been temporarily repaired over many years).
The building was finally deemed unsafe and plans were granted to demolish it.
In its place, plans were submitted to construct a 3.5 storey building with 22 flats, associated parking and retail space on the ground floor.
The application was met with fierce opposition from local resistant’s and historians, therefore, it was imperative that the design of the new building had a heritage appearance to appease the residents and council.
A lightweight DANOSA single-ply roofing system with an Alpha profile finish was proposed by Invictus Roofing to give the building a heritage zinc effect and strike a perfect balance between modern architecture and maintaining the town’s heritage values.

Denmark and White have employed Invictus Roofing to carry out all elements of the roof covering works at our project at Old Station House Polegate. This is the first time we have worked with Invictus and from the outset at the first co-ordination meeting Josh and his team were extremely helpful in providing technical details of the various Danosa products being proposed.
The helpfulness of Invictus Roofing continued when the start date for the roofing work was delayed and they had to re-schedule other work to accommodate a revised start on site. They were also prepared to work later in the day and at the week end to ensure that they could get the job finished.
The labour force on site were knowledgeable about the products being used and understood the job required and were always fully briefed. Site rules/requirements and health and safety standards required on site were also adhered to.
The high quality of the workmanship is testament to Josh’s preparation and supervision and the roofing works progressed to conclusion with very few issues. The end product is a great looking roof finish on a very technically difficult roof scape.
We have already employed Invictus Roofing on another project, using the Danosa system, as the experience of working with them on the Polegate project has been positive al: round. We would have no qualms in recommending Invictus Roofing and the Danosa product to others looking for a membrane roof finish.
